Virtual reality is the hot gaming buzzword(s) in 2016, with no fewer than three VR headsets looking to drain your wallet and open your mind. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem there will be a dearth of content at launch, with dozens of titles ready to make your costly investment worthwhile. Publisher Nicalis (The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth) and Swedish developers DNV are throwing their head-mounted device into the ring with the psytrance-flavored Dimensional Intersection.
Billed as “a transformation experience inside the heart of music,” Dimensional Intersection looks less like a traditional game and more like an interactive visualizer, with a morphing environment of fractals and shimmering light that will have you wondering if your “experimental” years at college had any long-term effects.
“Dimensional Intersection is a crazy experience that distills music into the purest form,” said Tyrone Rodriguez, Founder of Nicalis. “It’s being developed in a place very close to the origin of psytrance and that influence is evident in the game.” Further adding to the credentials is a tracklist by artists Soulacybin, Land Switcher, and MONS, guaranteeing that your trippy trance (trance-y trip?) will have the beats to back it up.
The trailer makes the game look like the surreal, MDMA-soaked lovechild of Milkdrop and Laserlife, and the VR aspect will only make it more immersive and intense.
Dimensional Intersection will be released fall 2016 on Playstation VR, Steam, and Oculus Rift. Psychedelics not included.
