- David F. Sandberg, james wan, lights out
Remember that irrational fear of the dark you had as a child? You know, the one that made the basement the most terrifying place in the house or your closet the home to monsters? It was silly and something that you likely grew out of quickly. Well, the new movie Lights Out is looking to re-instill that fear into you as an adult and from the looks of this first trailer, they did a bang up job.
Light’s Out is based off of David F. Sandberg‘s short film of the same name that went viral several years back. The short caught the eye of James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring) and he came on board to produce Sandberg’s feature length adaptation. And it appears that Warner Bros. likes what they see from the low budget horror film, bumping it up from a quiet September release date right into the heart of summer. Here’s hoping this doesn’t turn out to be another The Gallows, awesome trailer but underwhelming feature.
When Rebecca (Teresa Palmer) left home, she thought that her childhood fears were behind her. As a young girl growing up, she was never really sure of what was real when the lights went out at night. Now, her little brother Martin (Gabriel Bateman) is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that jeopardized her safety and sanity. Holding a mysterious attachment to their mother (Maria Bello), the supernatural entity has returned with a vengeance to torment the entire family.
Lights Out darkens theaters July 22, 2016.
